Green Waste

Green Waste is a valuable resource (with an
inaccurate name)

Green waste is any organic waste that can be composted like leaves, grass clippings, twigs and branches, and domestic or commercial kitchen waste.

When discarded in the trash, green waste ends up in landfills, where it breaks down and emits methane, an odorless, highly flammable greenhouse gas. Properly processed, green waste can be turned into nutrient-rich compost which reduces trash in landfills, builds healthy soil, and helps address climate change.
