Reduction and Reliability with Doppstadt in Payson, UT

As supervisor of the Payson City Municipal Landfill, Jed Lowe knows a thing or two about managing a landfill. With 20 years of experience at the landfill in Payson, Utah, and six years of experience as a supervisor, Lowe knows he must ensure the longevity of the landfill.

With recent developments and rapid construction in Payson, there has been an increase in C&D waste and green waste, said Lowe. He and his team had to decide if they were going to begin expanding the landfill, or find another solution, such as waste reduction. They began to demo shredders, and one machine, the Doppstadt DW3060K shredder, made an impression.

“By the time we got through several machines, the Doppstadt is the one that stood out to us, as far as durability and longevity on the machine,” said Lowe. “It fits our application the best. The technology and everything that was in it is what stood out.”

Reduction is Key

For the Payson City landfill, waste reduction is critical to the success of the site, and the Doppstadt DW3060K shredder puts in more than its fair share of work. Put simply, the machine shreds C&D waste and green waste, including the recent higher volumes, easily and without issue.

“That DW3060K just chews [C&D waste] up into nothing and basically reduces it to rubble. Which is awesome,” said Lowe.

Not only does it reduce waste effectively, but it also handles even the toughest of materials. Any issues he’s had with the machine are frequently operator errors, he added.

“The machine will take just about anything we throw in,” said Lowe. “It’s definitely a forgiving machine. It’s kind of amazing to see what will go through it and what it will handle without any damage.”

When the machine does need maintenance, Lowe knows he can trust ICM Solutions, the local distributor, for help, adding that they are “responsive” and “knowledgeable” and keeps him aware of any updates needed.

“ICM solutions are here to try and satisfy us as a customer. That’s their number one goal,” said Lowe.

With the continuing construction and development in the region, Lowe is confident his landfill will continue to maximize its space since he knows the DW 3060 will handle the workload.

“We highly recommend the machine for C&D,” Lowe said.
